Top local rider, Teresa Blázquez Abascal, with ‘Nasa de Toxandría’ beat off France, in a thrilling jump off.

The Chef d’Equipe was Carolo López Quesada and the other team members were Alberto Márquez Galobardes, Manuel Fernández Saro and Eduardo Álvarez Aznar.

Vejer de la Frontera, 28th October 2023. Spain has won the Nations Cup once again here at the III Andalucía October Tour, in a very exciting jump off finish. The Chef d’Equipe was Carolo López Quesada and the team members were: Alberto Márquez Galobardes with ‘Aldo du Manoir’; Manuel Fernández Saro with ‘Ezilis du Mesnil’; Teresa Blázquez-Abascal with ‘Nasa de Toxandría’ and Eduardo Álvarez Aznar with ‘D´Orient Batilly’. In the first round the team finished on 4 faults, but in the second they had three clears. This was exactly the same as the French team and put the two on equal points meaning a jump off would be the deciding factor.

With these two heading up the 8 that went through to the second round, the other placings were set with the United States of America in third place. Their team was headed by their Chef d’Equipe Anne Kursinski with riders,  Zayna Rizvi on ‘Exquise du Pachis’; Caitlyn Connors on ‘Falcon de Hus Z’; Hannah Selleck on ‘Cloud 39’ and Jacob Pope on ‘Highway Fbh’ making up the team and scoring 4 faults in each round, finishing on a sum of 8 faults.

The rest of the results were: Belgium fourth, Ireland fifth and Great Britain sixth. The last two places were taken by Italy and Switzerland.

The French rider chosen for the jump off was Marie Demonte and was first to go on  ‘Epona du Quesnoy’. They finished in a very good time but with one pole down. With all the pressure on her, home rider Teresa Blázquez who was the only one in the Spanish team, to jump clear in both legs, went into the ring on her brilliant, 10yr old chestnut mare, ‘Nasa de Toxandría’ (’Vertigo Saint-Benoit’ x ‘Chopin Van Het Moleneind’). She jumped a perfect clear round and the cheers that went up in the crowd could be heard across the show ground!  A really well deserved win for Spain and a very special home win for Teresa Blázquez.

So finally the French team took second place; their Chef d’Equipe was Edouard Coupérie, and the other team riders were Harold Boisset on ‘Malia du By’; Stanislas de Malet with ‘Zambo M Z’,  Guillaume Foutrier with ‘Corneska de la Faliza Z’
