Spotlight falls on Hong Kong for Longines Masters.
The Hong Kong Longines Masters is gearing up for what will be edition number four as the very best 30 horse and rider combinations from all around the world prepare to compete in what has become in recent years a not to be missed event.
Leading the way is the great Ludger Beerbaum, still among the top names even 28 years on from his gold medal at the Olympics in the team event. The rider remains one of the stars on the circuit and boasts an impressive 4 Olympic gold medals while fellow legend John Whitaker will also be in Hong Kong for the show-jumping extravaganza. The British rider meanwhile won his first Olympic medal in 1984.
Looking to rival the above greats is Patrice Delaveau, runner-up at the past World Championships. What’s more, and after his win at the Longines Paris GP, another win would hand him an incredible bonus of €500.000 in addition to keeping him on track for a Grand Slam when the tour stops off in LA.
Flying the flag for Germany on the other hand is Marco Kutscher whereas the list of top stars continues in the form of the French duo Kevin Staut and Roger-Yves Bost, Switzerland’s Pius Schwizer, riding high after victory in the World Cup GP in Zurich, Holland’s Gerco Schröder and Maikel van der Vleuten and not to mention world number two Simone Delestre.
Keep a close eye on the young Irish talent Bertram Allen, who at just 21 has a host of GP wins to his name such as in Dublin, Bordeaux, Paris and racked up over 30 international wins in 2015 alone. Carrying the hopes for Italy on the other hand will be Emanuele Gaudiano and Piergiorgio Bucci.
The ladies side isn’t as star studded as the men, but we still find Switzerland’s Jane Richard Philips, Britain’s Jessica Mendoza and Laura Renwick, one of the quickest on the circuit and with over 80 international wins to her name in 2015. What’s more, it isn’t just show-jumping in Hong Kong as fans will also be treated to the first Shanghai Tang Polo Cup tournament.
