The spectacular opening ceremony on Saturday signaled the start of the 2014 edition of the World Equestrian Games in Normandy and today the first trials in the dressage, para-dressage and reining disciplines will be taking place.
The dressage and reining trials are already underway and began at 08.00 on Monday morning while the protagonists from the para-dressage discipline will take to the field from 09.00.
Representing Italy in the dressage will be Federica Scolari who has already scored a respectable 64.428. It will then be the turn of Ester Soldi on Harmonia (13.40). The other Italian athletes meanwhile will be competing tomorrow with Leonardo Tiozzo on Randon at 08.27 followed by the star pair of the Italian Team Valentina Truppa on Fixdesign Eremo del Castegno at 14.12.
It’s also worth noting that a number of key players from the dressage discipline won’t be present because of injury. They are the performer of Mathias Rath, Totilas, in addition to 2 other top horses from the Dutch Team: Glock Undercover (Edward Gal’s mount) and Kingsley Siro (Danielle Heijkoopf’s mount). They have been replaced by Arlando HN N.O.P. with Diederik van Silfhout while Edward Gal has chosen his second mount Glock Voice.
However, there are still plenty of top players to keep the fans happy and above all of them is the coveted and record horse Valegro with rider Charlotte Dujardin. The other candidates for the medal are Helen Langehanenberg with Damon Hill, Adelinde Cornelissen with Jerich Parzival, Sweden’s Tinne Wilhelmsson-Silfvèn with Don Auriello, while Denmark’s Anna Kasprzak on Donnperignon and Germany’s Isabell Werth with the relatively young Bella Rose 2 are ones to watch out for.
In terms of the reining discipline, Italy’s Gennaro Lendi has already performed with Piccolo Spanish obtaining a score of 213. The other hopes for Italy are Stefano Angelucci with AB Captain Badger, Pietro Artinghelli on Samurai SNAP, Stefano Ferri with Rooster Nic and Giuseppe Prevosti with Boemil Twin Robotop.
Finally, there are no Italian representatives in the para-dressage discipline today. Just two riders have so far set a score and they were American Angela Peavy with Ozzy Cooper and Australian Elizabeth Sobecki on Hatero de PB. The rest of the 19 pairs will follow later in this third degree trial. At 14.00, a first degree competition is set to take place.
