2016 CHIO Aachen underway in Germany

The wait is now over: the highly anticipated and prestigious CHIO Aachen is finally underway in Germany and here below we track the results from day one.
Events kicked-off with a competition for young horses, the Sparkassen Youngster Cup, which saw Italy’s Emanuele Gaudiano finish in second place with Chalou (Baloubet du Rouet).

Yesterday was also the day of Canada’s Eric Lamaze who rode his way to victory in the main competition of the day, the Turkish Airline Prize of Europe.
Lamaze was in action with Fine Lady 5 and the duo showed great skill to win the jump-off against the other 17 horse and rider combinations.
In second spot we find Simon Delestre and his performer Qlassic Bois Margot while the final podium slot went to the Belgian Olivier Philippaerts with H&M Challenge vd Begijnakker.
There was another Belgian in fourth place in the form of Gregory Wathelet whereas in fifth spot we find Christian Ahlmann.
Romain Duguet was sixth and followed by Daniel Deusser who appeared in good form in front of the German national team coach Otto Becker to take seventh place.
Eighth spot was taken by Harrie Smolders of Holland, ninth place by Laura Kraut while rounding out the top-ten we find Beezie Madden.

Moving on, Ireland’s Cian o’Connor claimed victory in the Prize of Handwerk time trial with the KWPN Be Gentle. Second place went to Ukraine’s Cassio Rivetti with Beau Limit and third spot to Michael Whitaker with JB’s Hot Property. Yesterday’s events drew to a close with victory for US rider McLain Ward in the Prize of the Staedte Region Aachen with HH Carlos Z.

Looking ahead, the U25s are in action at 12.30 followed by the Sparkassen Youngster Cup for young horses at 14.00. Events continue with the Stawag Prize at 16.30 and come to a close with the Mercedes-Benz Nations Cup at 19.30.
