Fredricson in front in Gothenburg

We are coming to the end of European Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden with the finalists for the European title for the individual showjumping.
The man to beat is home favourite Peder Fredricson, who after individual Olympic silver is aiming to earn the European title who after three rounds has no penalties.
Swiss rider Fuchs follows with 2.03 penalties who is chasing a first European Senior Championship after having been the European Champion team winner in 2013. Riding Vejer de la Frontera Fuchs also had two silver medals (in teams and individual last year at Ebreichsdor) and in 2011 at Comporta, he also participated in Rio (9th individual and 6th place in the team event with Clooney 51).
Then there is Irish rider Shane Sweetnam, third with 2.10 penalties, who could undermine Fuchs’s plans: he is an experienced rider who has built his career from the bottom with patience working in the United States where he lives and works. This is his third European event after 2013 in Herning (44th place individual and 9th place in teams with Amaretto D Arco) and 2011 in Madrid with Amaretto D Arco (17th individual and 8th place Place for teams).
In fourth place with 2.25 we find a star of London 2012, the winner of individual bronze Cian o’Connor, this time looking for a medal on Good Luck (London Olympics rode Blue Loyd 12).
O’Connor has never managed to get an individual medal in a European championship and Gothenburg could be the occasion to fill this void.
Closing out the top five in Gothenburg with our own Alberto Zorzi, fifth in the ranking after the first three rounds and it would be great if he came back to Italy for the next event (we could see him in the field at the last qualifying round of Longines Global Champions Tour in Rome).
Zorzi has so far had a truly remarkable European championship and his Cornetto K has proven to be in great shape, in other words, it could be his day.
It starts this afternoon at 2pm with the individual jumps, followed by the award ceremony and closing ceremony for the discipline.
