Tina Lund describes her first championship win as the moment everything changed for her career.

“That was my first time doing a championship, and winning was an amazing feeling. I remember I was the last rider in the jump-off, which made the victory even more thrilling. I will never forget that feeling. It truly ignited my passion for winning and inspired me to dream of becoming a professional rider.”

She explains that this result created a clear direction for her future in the sport.

Major career highlights
Her career includes several results she places at the very top of her list, especially her championship success and international wins.

“There are a few wins that are particularly memorable for me. Of course, being the only European champion for Denmark ever is a significant achievement, and winning the championships in Copenhagen was an unforgettable experience. Winning a championship means so much to me because it’s not just about one round; it requires consistency across multiple rounds, which truly demonstrates the skill of the winner.”

She also highlights her World Cup victories as defining moments.

“Additionally, my two World Cup wins with Andante—first in Mechelen and then in Vigo—will always hold a special place in my heart. These victories were particularly meaningful because I developed Andante myself, making our success even more rewarding.”

Andante partnership
One of the strongest relationships in her career is with the mare Andante, a horse she developed from the beginning.

“The connection I had with Andante was truly unique because I built her up myself, and many people didn’t believe in her potential. I remember the first cross I jumped with her in my own arena; from that very first jump, I felt she was going to be special for my career.”

She describes a bond built on trust and reliability through years of competition.

“Throughout my years as a young rider, Andante was my rock—I could always depend on her. She had the strongest heart and always gave her best, fighting for me in the ring. She was an incredible mare, and I am so thankful and grateful to have had her in my career.”

Consistency and national dominance
Lund links her long run at the top of Danish rankings to constant competition and access to many horses.

“I was the most winning rider in Denmark for many years, and I believe this was largely due to my consistent presence at competitions. I wouldn’t want to miss a single weekend if I could help it.”

She also credits her family support structure for making that possible.

“I had the opportunity to ride many different horses, and I received tremendous support from my father, who made sure I had access to a variety of horses and took me to all the shows. This not only gave me a good chance of winning with different horses but also helped me accumulate points on the ranking list, which I topped for several years in a row.”

Aachen moment
A key international turning point came at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen.

“Jumping at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen was a pivotal moment for me. I remember being so close to making it to the finals; I had the last rail down, which was incredibly disappointing. However, that experience truly made me believe in myself and my abilities as a rider. It reinforced the idea that I belonged at that level of competition and motivated me to push even harder in the future.”

Life beyond top sport
Lund also values her experiences outside top level sport, including time away from constant competition and media projects.

“I believe that taking a few years to explore different avenues in my career has made me a stronger businesswoman and helped me understand the world in a new light. I wouldn’t trade my experiences as a mother or my time in other areas for anything.”

She adds a personal highlight outside riding.

“Being a top-level rider for many years is incredible, but I also recognize that there are other important aspects of life. I truly enjoyed these experiences and take great pride in the growth they brought to my career. For instance, being a runner-up on Dancing with the Stars is a memory I cherish and look back on with immense pleasure and joy.”

Training philosophy
Her focus as a trainer centers on confidence for both horse and rider.

“I genuinely love training riders of all ages, from young talents to more experienced clients.”

She currently works with young competitors who are already performing at high levels.

“Currently, I have two riders, both 15 years old, who are competing in four-star 145 classes, and seeing them succeed makes me incredibly proud as a trainer.”

She explains her core focus in daily training work.

“For me, the most important aspect is ensuring that the horses have confidence when they enter the ring. My role involves working with the horses at home, riding and jumping them to build their trust. I also focus on providing the girls with valuable experiences that enhance their confidence and equip them with the technical skills needed to become accomplished riders.”

Work with young riders and current results
Her students are active on international circuits and producing strong results in senior and junior sport. They compete up to 1.45 classes and take part in Longines Global Champions Tour events, along with junior divisions at other international shows.

Training structure and challenges
She also explains the difficulty of maintaining rhythm when young riders balance school and sport.

“Training with my clients varies greatly, especially with the two girls who are currently balancing school in Switzerland. One of the biggest challenges we face is when they have to take breaks from training, sometimes for two to four weeks due to exams and other commitments.”

She adds how this affects consistency.

“This interruption makes it difficult to maintain the flow and consistency in their training. We’re doing our best to navigate these struggles, as life as a 15-year-old girl is filled with various distractions, from school to social activities. Despite these challenges, we focus on making the most of our time together and maintaining their development as riders.”

Individual coaching approach
Her coaching style changes based on each rider’s goals.

“As a trainer, I always take an individualized approach with my clients. Each rider has different goals; some aspire to pursue a professional career, while others engage in riding purely for joy and pleasure.”

She adapts training based on motivation and ambition.

“This distinction significantly influences how I tailor my training methods and support for each client. I strive to understand their unique motivations and adjust my coaching style accordingly, ensuring that everyone feels fulfilled and challenged in their riding journey.”

Career milestones
Looking back, she highlights early national titles and major championship years as defining parts of her career.

“There have been several memorable wins throughout my career. One of the most significant moments was when I became the Danish champion at just 11 years old. It was my first major victory, and I still vividly recall how proud my parents were.”

She also recalls her breakthrough year at senior international level.

“Another highlight was in 2002 when I won the Danish Championships for seniors, as well as the Scandinavian Championships and the European Championships. That year was remarkable, as I became a well-known name in Danish sports.”

Team success also remains important to her.

“Additionally, my two wins at the World Cup and winning the Finals in Barcelona with my team were incredibly special. Winning individually is fulfilling, but achieving success with a team is an amazing accomplishment that adds a different layer of joy to the experience.”
