Harrie Smolders wins the Shanghai leg of the LGCT.

The Shanghai leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour has been won by the Dutch rider Harrie Smolders with his bay mare Zangersheide Regina Z (Rex). After what was a very close contest, the Dutchman also has the satisfaction of taking home a very cool 160.000 euros in prize money.
Climbing onto the second step of the podium, we find Switzerland’s Pius Schwizer. The rider’s form doesn’t seem to have suffered too much despite losing his top horse Toulago and has already started to string together some impressive performances with his new mount, the 10 year-old bay mare Caretina de Joter (Caretino). Britain’s Michael Whitaker came in third place and is another one in good form with his 13 year-old sorrel Viking (Jacomar). The rest of the top-ten was as indicated below:

As for the overall standings after the latest stage of the tour, Scott Brash maintains his place at the summit with 105 points, but following close behind in second we find Portugal’s Luciana Diniz (95) while Pius Schwizer has climbed up to third place on 88 points. The top-ten rankings continue as follows:
