LGCT 2015: Gregory Wathelet conquers Chantilly.
Belgian rider Gregory Wathelet has won the Chantilly leg of the 2015 Longines Global Champions Tour.
Wathelet conquered Chantilly after scoring the only double clear of the GP with his mount Conrad de Hus (Con Air). The Belgian finished ahead of Morocco’s Abdelkebir Ouaddar with Quickly de Kreisker (Diamant de Semilly) who came in second after 4 penalties at the jump-off.
Third ranked Penelope Leprevost also amassed 4 penalties in the final round, but wasn’t as quick as her Moroccan rival and settled for third in front of her home crowd with her mount Vagabond de la Pomme (Vigo d’Arsouilles).
Uliano Vezzani certainly put the international riders to the test with a particularly challenging course, even for a LGCT competition, and just the aforementioned 3 riders managed to go through to the jump-off phase of the GP.
Meanwhile, John Whitaker, French duo Patrice Delaveau and Simon Delestre as well as Sweden’s Rolf-Goran Bengtsson (winner last year here in France), were just some of the big names caught out by the Italian course designer’s tricky course.
A determined Scott Brash managed a top-ten finish and in doing so he keeps up the pressure on the tour leader Luciana Diniz. In fact the Portuguese horsewoman’s leadership now stands at just 3 points as the Scottish rider aims to cut the gap and regain his LGCT crown.
