There has been plenty of action at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, which is about to end the Winter Equestrian Festival, and where yesterday the most important categories of the week took place: the CSI5 * Rolex Grand Prix and the final of the Suncast championship over 1.50m.
We start with the most prestigious of the two competitions, the Grand Prix Rolex which had total prize money of 500,000 Euros and was won by Sergio Alvarez Moya. The Spanish rider on the KWPN Charmeur, which he owns. He finished half a second faster than the favorite, McLain Ward on Rothchild, the only other combination to make the final round without a penalty.
Of the many big names in Florida for this last week of the Winter Equestrian Festival was the Dutchman Jeroen Dubbelda, in 9th place with Zenith SFN.
Third ranked was the surprise Karen Polle, Japanese by birth that although she received an American passport four years ago chose to compete under the Japanese flag.
Polle only entered the equestrian international level a few months, but the 25-year-old has peformed well on With Wings winning the Ruby et Violette WEF Challenge Cup, pocketing the top prize of $130,000 and now the precious podium in one of the prestigious competition, ahead of two big names: Laura Kraut on Confu and Beezie Madden on Coach.
