Not long to go before the closing of registration for the edition number 86 of the CSIO in Rome (May 15), but already some of the top riders at the moment have been confirmed. Leading the way are British star Scott Brash, first to register, and Dutch rider Harrie Smolders.
Scott Brash, in the British team at the London 2012 Olympics (5th individual) and a long-standing team member, starting from 2013, in the FEI Ranking boasts, among his many victories the Rolex Grand Slam 2015.
The Scottish rider added the  Hertogenbosh: Geneva, Aachen and Calgary. An epic undertaking which has definitively projected him to the top of showjumping.
After the era of the legendary Ciao Sanctos “the horse of a lifetime“ as he defined it, Brash has a team of promising young jumpers in the stable. His first horse, however, remains the veteran Ursula XII, a true fighter set for Rome.
Harrie Smolders, new leader in the FEI Ranking, has a special feeling with Italy and with Rome in particular: first in 2016 and 2017 in the LGCT Grand Prix at the Stadio dei Marmi. In recent seasons, the rise of Smolders to the top has been inexorable. Thanks also to two super horses such as the stallions Emerald and Don VHP Z. And it is precisely with that that last August Smolders won the individual silver medal at the European Championships in Gothenburg.
PASSIONATE VOLUNTEERS
The adrenaline is already pumping for 115 ‘volunteers’ selected by the FISE for the 86th CSIO in Rome for what is considered one of the most prestigious and beautiful event in the world.
But what is the profile of the volunteer of Piazza di Siena 2018?

The youngest of the whole group is Marika, just 18 years old, who along with many of her peers is the strength of Francesca (born in 1957) which will be in the sign of the experience of years lived for and together with the horses.
The 115 ‘volunteers’ are spread around the various areas that make up the complex in the organizational machinery of the competition. It goes from the Piazza di Siena area to the Villa Borghese Galoppatoio, from assistance to international representatives, to the various secretariats, to the Press Office, to the Ceremonial and other services for a total of 11 sectors.
How are you able to spot them? Easy. They will all wear the same uniform, but making them recognizable will be the enthusiasm and happiness with which a unique event like the CSIO in Rome will play a leading role.
