Round-up from Aachen ahead of the individual show-jumping finals.
Here is our round-up from the European Championships as the event draws to a close in Aachen, Germany.
In the driving, Michael Brauchle managed to finish ahead of the current world champion Koos de Ronde to take the European crown. Koos de Ronde meanwhile had to settle for third whereas Ijsbrand Chardon took the silver. As for the team driving, Holland reclaimed their European crown as silver and bronze went to Germany and Hungary respectively.
Moving on to the vaulting, Germany’s Jannis Drewell marked his first ever European Championships by taking the gold on home soil and the Brusewitz brothers ensured a clean sweep of the podium for Germany with Thomas taking the silver and Viktor the bronze.
In the Pas de Deux, gold went to Austria’s Jasmin Linder and Lukas Wacha, silver to Germany’s Pia Engelberty and Torben Jacobs. Focusing on the women’s vaulting, Switzerland’s Simone Jaiser took gold, Germany’s Corinna Knauf silver and Austria’s Lisa Wild bronze.
Changing disciplines, there were two trials in the show-jumping. Starting with the Aachener Munchener Prize against the clock, this was won by Germany’s Christian Ahlmann with Epleaser van’T Heike. In second we find Michael Whitaker with Valentin R and Sweden’s Charlotte Mordasini with Romane du Theil in third. As for the Sparkassen Youngster Cup, the winner was Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann with his 7 year-old Holsteiner mount Lord Chambertin 2 (Lord Z). In second, we find Germany’s Janne Friederike Meyer with the Zangersheide mare Chloe (Chippendale Z) whereas the final podium slot went to Austria’s Andreas Schou with Chalisco (Chacco-Blue). Italian rider Lorenzo De Luca gave a strong performance and came in 9th with 8 year-old BWP Halifax van het Kluizebos. A reminder that riders will be competing for the European title in the individual category this afternoon. Italy’s Piergiorgio Bucci on Catwalk Z is amongst the 25 competing for the gold.
