The third edition of the Longines Global Champions Tour in Rome will showcase some truly extraordinary horses and riders. The most successful protagonists of the show jumping world will be competing at the Stadio dei Marmi Pietro Mennea, at the Foro Italico, from Thursday 21 to Sunday 24 of September. The show will be a celebration of excellence and raw emotions for the fans and lovers of the sport.
Rome is the final stage before the 2017 final for the circuit that Jan Tops created in 20006 and which has from the beginning been called the Formula 1 of equestrianism. An innovative format for great equestrian sporting event that has radically transformed the competitive and organizational sides of show jumping.
Following the first 13 hard-fought appointments of the LGCT Grand Prix and the races in the team trial – the Global Champions League which made its debut in 2016 – everything I still up for grabs, adding to the excitement for the Roman weekend. The registration progress is still a work in progress, but the Equestrian World that’s in is enough to define the sporting calibre of the event. The first to sign up were Peder Fredricson, Harrie Smolders; the current leader of the LGCT circuit, and Cian O’Connr; the three stars who made it onto the podium at the Gothenburg European Championship. They will be joined by Italian rider Alberto Zorzi, rider of the Tops team, who came in fourth in Sweden. Fourth, the same placement currently occupied by Lorenzo De Luca in the Longines Ranking List, the other Azzurro who entered the Gotha World Championship, winner winner of the Valkensward LGCT Grand Prix who is also highly anticipated at the Stadio dei Marmi.
