Germania trionfa a Mannheim nella Longines EEF Series Region Central
Il team di casa firma una vittoria senza errori davanti a Belgio e Irlanda
Grande entusiasmo sugli spalti del Reiter-Verein Mannheim, dove la Germania ha conquistato una vittoria emozionante nella tappa inaugurale della Longines EEF Series Region Central 2026, replicando il successo già ottenuto lo scorso anno. Il quartetto tedesco ha chiuso la competizione con un punteggio impeccabile di zero penalità nelle due manches, precedendo Belgio e Irlanda, rispettivamente seconda e terza.
La squadra vincitrice era composta da nomi di grande esperienza e giovani promesse: Michael Jung in sella a Fischerheros Z, Sandra Auffarth con Quirici H, Stefan Engbers su Baju Nrw e Gerrit Nieberg con IB Queen. Un mix che si è rivelato vincente, come sottolineato dal capo equipe Ralf Runge, che ha dichiarato: “That was a very balanced team that simply delivered. We had a great mix in the team, with two very experienced horses and two horses for whom this was their first Nations Cup. They were all incredibly focused, which was brilliant”.
Runge ha inoltre evidenziato il valore della serie: “Our sport has become very demanding, and the series also gives younger horses and riders a chance to showcase themselves. That’s one side of it; on the other, many nations are also using the EEF Nations Cups to test their candidates for the World Championships this year. A big thank you from all of us goes to Longines, the EEF and Mannheim for allowing us to ride here at this fantastic venue”.
La competizione ha assunto un significato ancora più speciale, coincidente con il centenario del circolo ippico organizzatore. Il direttore del concorso, Peter Hofmann, ha commentato con soddisfazione: “Victory in the Nations Cup to mark the 100th anniversary of our Reiter-Verein Mannheim. That’s a wonderful birthday present. We had a full house, a great atmosphere, brilliant weather – it couldn’t have been better”.
Il momento decisivo è arrivato con l’ultimo binomio in campo, quello formato da Gerrit Nieberg e IB Queen. La pressione era altissima: un percorso netto avrebbe garantito la vittoria alla Germania, mentre quattro penalità avrebbero portato a un barrage a tre squadre con Belgio e Irlanda. Nieberg ha mantenuto sangue freddo, portando la cavalla KWPN di 11 anni a un percorso impeccabile, assicurando il successo davanti al pubblico di casa.
A fine gara, il cavaliere ha spiegato: “I was, of course, aware of the situation that I had to keep a clear round if we didn’t want a jump-off. I knew about the tension and the expectations, but I simply focused on myself and my horse. Queen jumped well in the first round and in the second I had an even better feeling. She’s in top form”.
Dopo la prima manche, Germania e Belgio erano entrambe a zero penalità, con Francia e Irlanda a inseguire con quattro. Nella seconda manche, i tedeschi hanno continuato senza errori: doppio netto per Stefan Engbers e Baju Nrw, così come per Gerrit Nieberg e IB Queen, mentre Michael Jung ha chiuso con una sola penalità sul tempo.
Lo stesso Jung ha commentato: “At first, I was a bit annoyed [about the time fault]. Sometimes the outcome of a jumping round depends on a time fault. I felt I was actually riding at a good pace, but I then watched the ride back on video and in the second round I rode the short-side lines a bit faster. I am so proud of him. I think he is a very special horse with unlimited talent.”
Il Belgio ha mantenuto la seconda posizione nonostante quattro penalità nella seconda manche per i primi due binomi, Yves Vanderhasselt con Pepper Vitseroel Z e Anthony Philippaerts su Gabell d’Arvor. Determinanti le prestazioni senza errori di Katja Haep con Romy FZ e Jos Verlooy con Nixon van ’t Meulenhof.
L’Irlanda ha conquistato il terzo posto grazie ai percorsi netti di Lt Michaeli Byrne con MSH Claregalway e Max Wachman su Tipperary, chiudendo con un totale di quattro penalità.
Ai piedi del podio la Svizzera, campione in carica, guidata da Martin Fuchs e Fortjump du Beaumenil, unico doppio netto della squadra, per un totale di otto penalità. Stesso punteggio per la Francia, quinta, con la migliore prestazione firmata da Eden Leprevost Blinlebreton in sella a Barbie de la Roque Z EDB.
Sesta l’Austria grazie a Katharina Rhomberg e Colestus Cambridge, mentre i Paesi Bassi hanno chiuso settimi con 16 penalità, nonostante il doppio netto del promettente Party In de Hus montato da Willem Greve.
Completano la classifica Repubblica Ceca, Ungheria, Norvegia e Slovacchia. Ora l’attenzione si sposta sulla prossima tappa della serie, in programma a Lier, in Belgio, il prossimo 8 maggio.
