Agriturist, the association of the Agriturismi of the Confagricultura (the Italian agricultural organisation) has published a list of the regions in Italy where holiday makers prefer to ride their horses via their website www.agriturist.it Unfortunately two regions have been seriously penalised: Abruzzo and Campania. The former obviously for the earthquakes that took place this spring while the latter for the problems involving the waste disposal. Meanwhile these are the locations that are most favoured by the tourists, be it a seaside resort or merely a peaceful getaway on horseback. The most popular regions for the Italians are: Lazio, Lombardy, Sicily and Liguria. Amongst the provinces Grosseto, Brescia, Siena, Verona and Ancona top the list. The most popular locations are along the south coast of Grosseto, north and south coast of Livorno, the Chianti senese and near Verona along Lake Garda. Obviously seaside (or lakeside) resorts are favoured locations with the only exception being the ‘country relax’ of the Chianti senese region.Foreign tourists, on the other hand, have different priorities and preferences. As far as regions go the British will go to Tuscany, Sicily, Lombardy, Liguria and Sardinia. The Germans in Tuscany, Sicily, Sardinia, Piedmont and Trentino. The French prefer Tuscany, Lombardy, Piedmont, Sicily and Sardinia. With regards to the provinces, the Brits will be more orientated towards Siena, Florence, Brescia, Pisa and Lucca, the Germans prefer Catania, Siena, Florence, Oristano and Udine while the French going to Florence, Grosseto, Oristano, Perugia and Livorno Agricola.
