Today the last CSI4* of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour 2023

Michael Pender was one of only three riders in the jump off of the final of the 7yr olds, and he won the class on the gorgeous grey HHS Cyprus, whose bloodlines are impeccable, this grey stallion is by ‘Cornet Obolensky’ and the dam ‘HHS Acorado’ is from the same stud as ‘HHS Cyprus’, who is by ‘Acorado’. We were very lucky to not only interview Michael,  but also the HHS stud representative, Miguel Bravo.
Michael told us:  ‘I’m delighted to win the 7yr old final here at the Sunshine Tour. I wasn’t really expecting to,  my horse is quite green but he jumped fantastic yesterday and I’m absolutely delighted.  The course was quite difficult there was only three clears. I think it was quite difficult,  but a nice course and I don’t think any horse got a really bad experience,  so well done again and a big thanks to Sunshine Tour.’
Miguel Bravo told us that now they are entering third generation of the breeding programme that the HHS stud has put into action, and it is clearly coming to fruition. ‘I’d just like to say that we are more than delighted that we have three HHS horses in the first ten’.  What a superb result for the stud. Miguel told us that these super results come from ‘a lot of effort and also we are very lucky to have riders like Mikey and Molly (Hughes Bravo who was fourth with ‘HHS Tokyo’);   Sunshine Tour thank you very much and we will see you next year!’
Michael stopped the clock in just 42.73s and in second place in 43.98s was the German rider, Sophie Hinners with Duchesse Z (‘Diarado’ x ‘Wandor van de Mispelaere’) in third with one pole, was French rider, Penélope Leprevost with Gjos de Beaufour (‘Contendro*GFE’ x ‘Diamant de Semilly’), and she also took fifth with Vanquish Z (‘Vagabond de la Pomme’ x ‘Calypso III’). As mentioned above Molly with HHS Tokyo was fourth.
In the 6yr old final, our winner was Irish rider, Niamh McEvoy, who steered ‘BP Tiny Dancer’ to a stunning win, stopping the clock in the jump off in 36.01s well ahead of the Polish rider, Maksymillian Wechta with Next One, who stopped the clock in 37.58s taking second place.
Niamh told us after the class:
‘BP Tiny Dancer, is one of my all time favourite horses . She jumped so good yesterday and through the seven weeks here she was just amazing. She was sold in December in the Ballypatrick Auction and they are putting through lots of good horses. She is owned by Sarah Tredennick, from America, so its great that she has left her with us for this year to compete in the 6yr old classes and get some more millage and I’m just so delighted to have her. Yesterday she jumped really, really nice, she had a really quick jump off she’s so careful and so brave and such a super horse so I’m really delighted with her.’
The mare is by Plot Blue with the dam sire ‘Concorde’ who is proving to be a popular and successful dam sire.
In second, Maksymillian with Next One, a grey Holsteiner mare by ‘Number One’ (a ‘Numero Uno stallion’)  and the dam sire is ‘Lucky Boy’; in third and fourth were the Irish riders, Kevin Gallagher wit BP Goodfellas (Stakkato Gold’ x ‘Obos Quality 004’) and Jason Foley with Mister Rossi (‘Zapatero VDL’ x ‘Douglas’). In fifth was British rider, Emma Stoker with the lovely mare Priskada, who has had super results here at the tour.
Winner of the 5yr old Final was Spanish rider, Juan Manuel de Jove Rodriguez de Torres riding  Amarylis de Olid.  This mare is by ‘Huppydam des Horts’, a stallion who himself is from ‘Quidam de Revel’. The dam is by ‘Stalypso’ who is by ‘Stakkato’.  Two great breeding lines. The mare’s owner is David Gonzalez Recio.
In second place we have British rider, Nicole Lockhead Anderson who was riding Pria Blue PS another super mare who is by the KWPN stallion ‘Presley Boy’ from the ‘Concorde line’.  The dam sire is the legendary stallion ‘Chacco Blue’.
In third was the Indian rider, Fouaad Mirza with Cazaan’s Cecotto B (‘Cazaan’ x ‘Tornesch 1042’); Irish, Nicholas Connors with Chelone Z (‘Cicero Z’ x ‘Wandor Van de Mispelaere’)  was fourth and Spanish Hugo Álvarez Amaro with Iroco del Maset, was fifth.
This important day of competition here at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour 2023, was sponsored by the ‘Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte’ and co-financed by the European Union.
Today we start up the last CSI4* of the circuit with eight classes and there are also three classes in the CSI1* and the consolation, ‘Farewell’ classes for the young horses plus the eight year old, 1.40 class. Access to the show ground and parking is all free, and there is plenty to do and see, for a great day out watching top international riders in action.
