Assisi labelled ‘Meydan’
This year the prefix ‘Meydan City’ was attached to the key event of the 2009 season, the European Championship, and the same name seen for the first time at Show Jumping CSIO demonstrates that ‘Meydan City’ has horses at heart but what exactly is ‘Meydan City’?The term ‘meydan’ perfectly matches the sentiment which the Assisi Endurance Lifestyle event was founded on, this year MEYDAN CITY FEI OPEN EUROPEAN ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009. Meydan in Turkish means ‘meeting place’ also in competition, and Assisi, with the previously mentioned event is aiming to rediscover and invoke times of yore when the local townsquare, the piazza, was the centre of urban existence, a meeting place also for sport. So, the European championship will not only be the site of a key sporting event, but also the heart where cultures, religions and peoples join together. Meydan City is the equivalent of our society in a limited form: it is aimed at the development of everything that rotates around the Arab world of horse. It is a true city, headquarters and congress centre situated four kilometres from the mouth of Dubai Creek and boasts more than 10 super luxury restaurants, a covered car park for 10 000 vehicles, the Meydan Museum and Gallery, IMAX cinema and the Dubai Racing Club.
Under construction is an overwhelming opera dedicated to horse racing, a project which stretches the limits of the imagination which will be inaugurated in 2010 and will become the headquarters Dubai World Cup. Sitting comfortably and served by staff at the hippodrome offering high quality service, 60 thousand will be able to admire the most beautiful thoroughbreds in the world The company presided by H. Saeed Al-Tayer is a truly important backer to the great sporting events in international endurance. The appointment for Assisi is scheduled for September 26.
