Ben Maher triumphs in global Champions Tour Madrid

Ben Maher was the winner of the Longines Global Champions Tour 2018 on Saturday in the main competition of the CSI5*.
The British rider was paired with the 9 year old Explosion W, owned by poden Farms, in what proved to be a very positive weekend all-round, with good finishes in many of the categories of this CSI5* and which culminated with the spectacular win in the most prestigious event.
The local spectators had been hoping for a Spanish victory with home hero Eduardo Alvarez Aznar and his horse Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot the favourite but he eventually had to settle for a highly satisfactory 2nd place behind Maher, wih the exact same time as the Belgian rider Nicola Philippaerts on H&M Harley van de Bisschop. Both shared second spot on the podium.

with this result Maher has earnned a place in the Global Champions Super Grand Prix and has also moved up to second in the rankings on 103 points behind fellow Brit Scot Brash who lads with 131 points. Currently third in the rankings after four events is Edwina Tops-Alexander on 100 points.
The top Italian rider is Alberto Zorzi in 17th place on 50 points.
