Gloves, Birkins & Bucket Lists

In the world of international show jumping, it’s not just about performance — it’s about preparation, mindset, and personal style. We sat down with professional rider from Ireland, Cameron Hanley, and his student Anastasia Nielsenfor a quick-fire chat on the essentials they carry, the fashion pieces they love, and the adventures still waiting on their bucket lists.

What’s in the Ring Bag?

“Polos and gloves,” Anastasia says. “Especially gloves. I lose them constantly.”

Cameron agrees. “I don’t always wear gloves, but when things get wet or you want to look sharp, they’re a must.”

Still in the Basket…

Anastasia confesses she’s had a Missoni dress sitting in her online cart for ages. “It’s colorful, timeless — and I can’t quite commit.”

Cameron’s wish list is more practical: “A new driver for my golf bag. My last one was stolen straight out of the trailer.

Still annoyed.”

Bucket List Dreams

Cameron is all about adventure: “I’d love to go cage diving with sharks. It’s been on my bucket list for ages.”

Anastasia’s bucket list is a bit different: “Bungee jumping for sure. I’m also keen on diving with sharks — but not in a cage. I’ve swum with reef sharks before, but I want to do it without a cage next time.”

Dream Destinations

We all have that one place we’ve yet to visit, and both Anastasia and Cameron have their eyes on incredible destinations.

Anastasia’s dream is Nihi Sumba in Indonesia. “It’s this beautiful, remote island. A real escape from everything. I can’t wait to go there.”

For Cameron, his ideal destination is Zimbabwe for a safari. “That’s been on my bucket list for a long time. The wildlife, the landscape — it’s something I’ve always wanted to experience firsthand.”

Style Staples

When asked about iconic fashion pieces, Anastasia doesn’t hesitate. “The Birkin bag. It changed the definition of luxury.”

Cameron’s take is simpler: “A great pair of blue jeans. You can wear them anywhere.”

“I hate blue jeans,” Anastasia jumps in, laughing.

The Balance

Different styles, different personalities — but a shared passion for the sport brings them together. Whether it’s

missing gloves, dream vacations, or the perfect dress (or driver), Anastasia and Cameron show how the rider lifestyle is equal parts grit, grace, and a little bit of glamour.
