Chiara Galeazzi: “The first Avantea horses are already proving their worth in the competition arena”

Breeding top-level sport horses is a long-term investment that demands vision, patience, and consistency. From selecting the right genetics to the birth of a foal, its development, backing, and eventual debut in competition, years pass before the outcome of each decision becomes visible. For that reason, when the first horses from a breeding programme begin to enter the sport and fulfil their potential, their success represents far more than competitive results alone.

That is precisely what is happening for Chiara Galeazzi, rider and breeder, who has relied on Avantea’s assisted reproduction technologies for several years to shape her breeding programme. Today, the first foals produced through that vision have matured into promising young sport horses and are already delivering significant performances in young horse classes, providing tangible proof of the value of a programme built on long-term planning, elite genetics, and scientific innovation.

Among them is Chacado de Melodie Z, a four-year-old chestnut stallion bred by Chiara together with her partner and produced through the assisted reproduction techniques developed by Avantea.

“Chacado de Melodie Z is a horse we bred ourselves using Avantea’s reproductive technologies,” she explains. “He is by Chacco Blue out of Chabada de la Pomme, an exceptional broodmare whose pedigree includes Kashmir van Schuttershof, For Pleasure, Darco and Chin Chin, and who belongs to the renowned Qerly Chin family, one of the most influential dam lines in the world. He is a horse in which I have tremendous confidence because, from his very first outings, he has shown truly exceptional qualities.”

Her words carry even greater significance considering that these horses represent the very first generation bred by Chiara through this reproductive programme.

“These four-year-olds are essentially the first foals we produced using these techniques. Seeing them now competing gives me the feeling that they are above average. They have the quality, scope and mindset that make me extremely optimistic about their future in sport.”

According to Chiara Galeazzi, the true value of reproductive biotechnology lies not simply in producing an embryo, but in providing access to world-class genetics that would often be difficult, if not impossible, to obtain through conventional breeding methods.

“The opportunity to work with outstanding broodmares, both from a sporting and breeding perspective, completely changes your possibilities. It allows you to build a genetic programme with a level of quality that would otherwise be far more difficult to achieve. Today, I am beginning to see in the competition arena the results of decisions made several years ago.”

Alongside Chacado de Melodie Z, another horse central to Chiara’s breeding programme is Hera 2000 Z, a mare purchased at the prestigious Zangersheide Elite Auction and already incorporated into the reproductive programme developed in partnership with Avantea.

“We have enormous faith in Hera as well. This year she produced two fillies, both by IP Touch, and both have already been sold to the United States thanks in part to our collaboration with Franca Zanetti. It shows that our work extends well beyond the competition arena and continues through our breeding programme.”

The use of assisted reproduction technologies has now become an integral part of the stable’s long-term planning.

“I rely on Avantea very frequently. Ours is a partnership built over time because I truly believe in these technologies. In fact, shortly before leaving for a competition, I was at their facilities collecting frozen embryos ready for transfer. It has simply become part of our normal breeding routine.”

A confidence built over the years and reinforced by the results now emerging in competition.

“At this stage, I am finally seeing in reality what we envisioned when we first embarked on this journey. The horses are developing well, they are progressing through the young horse classes and demonstrating remarkable quality. For any breeder, it is immensely rewarding to see work carried out years earlier finally take shape in the competition arena.”

Chiara Galeazzi’s experience stands as one of the clearest examples of how biotechnology applied to equine reproduction can influence not only the quantity, but above all the quality, of modern sport horse breeding. Behind every young horse entering the arena lies a project that began years before, combining genetic selection, veterinary expertise and carefully considered breeding decisions.

That is ultimately the message conveyed by her experience: horses produced through Avantea’s reproductive technologies are no longer simply a promise for the future. They are already competing, establishing themselves in young horse classes, and providing compelling evidence that scientific research, elite breeding and equestrian sport can move forward together, transforming carefully designed genetic programmes into athletes capable of expressing their talent from the very beginning of their sporting careers.
