US rider Kent Farrington rode to an important victory at the Real Club de Polo in Barcelona yesterday evening, triumphing in the Longines Cup of the City of Barcelona. The 1.55m trial was over two rounds and the American beat the competition on his KWPN gelding Uceko (Celano) to take home 39600 euros in prize money.
A descendant from the Whitaker family came in second, with the youngest of the famous equestrian family William taking the silver medal with Upperclass (Concorde). He was followed by Marie Hecart on Myself de Breve (Quidam de Reve) in third.
There was also an excellent fourth place finish for Piergiorgio Bucci with Catwalk Z, with no errors but not quite quick enough for a podium finish. The rest of the top-ten was made up as follows:
5th Gerco Schroder NED Cognnac Champblanc
6th Doda de Miranda BRA AD Nouvelle Europe Z
7th Marlon Mòdolo Zanotelli BRA Rock n’Roll Semilly
8th Kevin Staut FRA Qurack de Falaise HDC
9th Olivier Philippaerts BEL Carlito C
10th Lauren Hough USA Cornet 39
There was another individual competition taking place yesterday in the form of the El Periòdico Trophy from 1.45m against the clock. This was won by French lady-rider Penelope Leprevost with Selle Française Sultane Des Ibis. In second place we find Brazil’s Pedro Veniss with Anemoi O Sandor followed by Christian Ahlmann on Barco 6.
