58 horse and rider combinations went head to head for the small GP Engel & Volkers in the Italian capital, but it was the US star McLain Ward that came out on top with HH Carlos Z.
The course designed by the world famous Uliano Vezzani put many of the riders to the test, including the Azzurri hopefuls such as Piergiorgio Bucci who made an error at the final jump.
Fellow Italian Matilde Giorgia Bianchi didn’t make it through to the jump-off after going beyond the time-limit while Emanuele Gaudiano was another of the many Italian riders to make errors round the course.
However, it wasn’t all despair for the home riders and the teenage Tuscan, Guido Franchi, went through to the jump-off with Paolo Zuvadelli, Luca Maria Moneta and Gianni Govoni. The latter even came second behind the winner Ward while the final podium slot went to Jose la Rocca.
