The Irish rider claimed the Cardel Homes Cup 1.55m ahead of Daniel Deusser and McLain Ward.

International competition at the 2026 Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ officially got underway on Wednesday, 9 September, as the world’s leading show jumping combinations entered the International Ring for the first time.

The CSIO5* programme opened with the Cardel Homes Cup, a 1.55m class that offered riders an initial opportunity to familiarise themselves with the imposing Canadian arena while working towards qualification for Sunday’s feature competitions.

The course designed by Venezuela’s Leopoldo Palacios produced 21 clear rounds, underlining the remarkable depth and quality of the field assembled for this year’s tournament.

Victory went to Daniel Coyle, whose extensive experience at Spruce Meadows proved invaluable. Riding Calippo 57, with whom he has only recently formed a partnership, the Irishman delivered a swift and faultless jump-off round, stopping the clock in 40.24 seconds.

“I think, for me specifically, knowing Spruce Meadows is a big help. Coming here for the first or second time is challenging for riders. Things are different here compared with anywhere else, as they should be—that is why it is called the ‘Masters’,” Coyle explained when discussing the preparation required for the prestigious event.

Daniel Deusser and Pepita Van T Meulenhof BR secured second place, while McLain Ward and High Star Hero completed the podium. Deusser also finished seventh aboard Otello De Guldenboom.
