The Doha CSI5* in Qatar began this afternoon where over the weekend the new Global Champions Tour winner will be crowned.
However before then, the riders present took to the field in 2 trials scheduled in Qatar. Hans-Dieter Dreher and Gregory Wathelet both got off to excellent starts by winning the 1.45m and 1.55m competitions respectively.
Dreher won the 1.45m trial over two phases with 11 year-old Holsteiner Callisto (Casall) ahead of two home favourites: Al Rumaihi Ali Yousef with Gunder (Thunder vd Zuthoeeve) and Khalid Mohammed Al Emadi on Utascha SFN. There was also a positive result for Italian rider Luca Maria Moneta who came 4th with 9 year-old Jimy (Casall). Wathelet meanwhile rode to victory in the 1.55m trial with jump-off on Conrad de Hus, a really promising 9 year-old Holsteiner stallion. Germany’s Daniel Deusser on Cornet d’Amour (Cornet Obolensky) came in second while Portugal’s Luciana Diniz with Fit For Fun (For Pleasure) came in third place. Moneta once again was the best ranked Italian rider and came in 8th place, this time with Connery (Cordobes).
