A young lady’s dream was shattered when Adelinde Cornelissen, Equestrian star from Holland, was forced to withdraw her horse, Parzival, from the 2009 FEI World Cup Finals Dressage. The competition which is being held in the Thomas& Mack Center in Las Vegas started at midday on Thursday the 16th of April and will continue till Sunday the 19th.
The 29-year-old’s horse suffered a tendon injury on Tuesday, and despite the fact Parzival was able to take part in the warm up session the same afternoon, his limp was very noticeable.
The duo had shown great potential so far this season, winning three of the qualifying rounds, but the 12-year-old steed will and his rider will be unable to go all the way, as a result of this injury.
Adelinde had managed to finish second twice; in the 2007 edition of the competition finishing behind Jan Brink of Sweden in Falsterbo and in last year’s event where she was beaten only by Isabell Werth.
Unfortunately by that time the Dutch Olympic team had already been chosen, and Cornelissen and Parzival had to make do with a place on the reserve list, which pushed the duo to work harder in view of this season’s World Cup finals.
Other Equestrian World from Las Vegas is that Dr. Vincenzo Truppa, who was meant to be a part of the jury for the event did not make it to the venue on time, and had to be replaced by Maribel Alonso de Quinzanos. Truppa did not make it on time because his flight was forced to perform an emergency landing in Iceland, due to the pilot suffering a heart attack. The Italian official is expected to arrive in Las Vegas tomorrow.
