EUROPEAN JUMPING CHAMPIONSHIP CH-J-YR VILAMOURA 2021

Yesterday was a very special day in the European Jumping Championship Ch-J-YR
Vilamoura 2021. Something very rare (if not for the first time in history), happened.
Belgium achieved a “Double Win” in the Second Qualifier of the Nations Cup, this time for
the Young Rider category and after winning the Juniors category, thursday. Rik Deraedt,
Chef d ́Equipe, for both categories since 2011, was more than happy, not only because
the European Championship in Portugal, at Herdade da Comporta in 2011, came back to
his memory (Belgium also won a medal there), but because the commitment of his
athletes and the will to work together for the same goal, was one of the things that made
the difference. The other medals were delivered to English speaking countries, Ireland
received a silver medal and Great Britain, the Bronze one. Yesterday ́s sponsors were exactly
the same than yesterday… GPA Helmets and a weekend on Vila Galé Hotels, courtesy of
the sponsors (GPA and Vila Galé Hotels), Flexon ́s Stirrups and Equick ́s Boots.
Still about the Young Riders, it ́s important to mention, the clear round of the Russian
Egor Shchibrik, riding Cornet’s Spirit, in 74.84, granting him the best result on yesterday ́s
Second Round of the category ́s Second Qualifier, counting for the Individual Ranking.
As for the second class of the day, in the Children ́s category, the Helvetic Leon Hänzi,
riding Qui Rit PJ, was “sharp as a clock” and took only 63,98 to do a clear in the First
Round of the Second Qualifier (1,30m). In terms of the Nations Cup, the First Round,
happened yesterday and Belgium is also strong, only 3 points away form France (the top team
with only one point) and with the same number of points than Italy.
The best “home riders” were Diogo Portela Mendes & Divalentino C, that achieved the
59o position in the Young Riders category and Alice Laruça riding Canouan Island, that
qualified for the Children ́s final, thanks to a clear round in 68,82.
Today, the day will be even more exciting, due to the 3 classes we ́re having, the
second round of the Children ́s Nations Cup and the Second Round of the Second
Qualifier and the Juniors Individual Final and Farewell.
