As is tradition, the leading figures from the equestrian world have been rewarded for their efforts over the year at the FEI general assembly which this year took place in San Juan, Porto Rico.
Awards were handed out in the following categories: Longines Rising Star, Reem Acra Best Athlete, Best Groom, Against All Odds and FEI Solidarity.
The winner in the first category was the teenage talent Jessica Mendoza from Great Britain. The 19 year-old racked up over 10 wins last year and has already represented her nation on the international stage.
Australia’s Boyd Exell, a four time world champion in the driving discipline, won the Reem Acra Best Athlete award while the Best Groom 2015 was given to America’s Jose Eduardo (Eddie) Garcia Luna who works with Olympic rider Steffen Peters.
Uruguay’s Oriana Ricca Marmissolle of the endurance discipline claimed the Against All Odds award for her ability to overcome Phase III Hodgkin’s Lymphoma which was diagnosed when she was 17.
Finally, the FEI Solidarity award went to the Haiti project “Les Chevaux qui pansent les plaies“ (Horses that heal wounds). The project is aimed at children affected by the earthquake in Haiti, and in particular, amputees.
