It was very clear from his displays in these past days in Verona that Bertram Allen was in good form, but it seems the 20 year-old rider left the very best to last.
After winning the Selleria Equipe prize over 1.50m on Friday, Ireland’s golden boy followed it up by winning the most prestigious competition scheduled in Verona: the latest stage of the FEI World Cup. On his grey mare, Molly Malone V, Allen was the fastest round the course in a time of 34.89 seconds to finish ahead of a world champion in the team category, Maikel van der Vleuten on VDL Groep Verdi TN, who managed a time of 35.52 seconds. The final podium slot went to Germany’s Marcus Ehning with his splendid grey stallion Cornado NRW.
There was also very good Equestrian World for Italy as Piergiorgio Bucci finished in fifth place with Casallo Z. Bucci was beaten into fourth place by Swedish rider Malin Baryard-Jonhsson on H&M Tornesch. The rest of the top-ten was as indicated below:
6th Martin Fuchs SUI PSG Future
7th Michael Whitaker GBR Viking
8th Pius Schwizer SUI Armani The Gun
9th Daniel Deusser GER Forlap
10th Steve Guerdat SUI Albfuehren’s Paille
The other Italian riders finished as follows: 15th Emanuele Gaudiano with Admara2, 22nd Juan Carlos Garcia with Bonzai van de Warande, 27th Luca Maria Moneta with Neptune Brecourt, 29th Simone Coata with Cannavaro 17.
Unfortunately, there was a 36th place finish for Lorenzo De Luca with Elky van het Indihof. The pair retired, but the equestrian event in Verona has been a success on the whole taking into account the wonderful win in the Miasuki small GP with Zoe II.
