A spectacular day of horse riding took place in the area of the Veresotto, on the borders of the town of Varese.A horse show not seen for some time round these parts, promoted by the Società Milanese per la Caccia a Cavallo (drag hunting society), the Clubino dei Dadi and also by the Circolo dell’Unione of Milan. It all started with the Pony Show in the morning that saw Ludovica Crespi Morbio take first place on Trudy, followed in second and third place by the siblings Ginevra and Jacopo Di Nola on Luna Rossa and Stella Bianca respectively. After that it was the turn of the half blood horses – with both horses and riders richly adorned as is the custom – always under the watchful eye of the jury commission guided by the general Grignolo and supported by doctor Paolo Reinach, De Andreis and the count Lucheschi. The top three spots went to three english female riders: Emma Ashford on Xico, Sue Davis on Fire and Linda J. Smith on Adam. Then it was the turn of the pure blood horses who repeated the classic stages: step, trot and galloping. The jury handed out the top three awards to Leopoldo Cicogna Mozzoni on Valzao, followed by Ezio Calzavara on Pooran Sigh while third place was a tie between Febrizio Crespi Morbio on Gorge Boy and Paolo Biasia on Morillon. Finally, in the afternoon, the moment that everyone had been waiting for arrived – the Derby of Mustonate, Rossi d’Angera Trophy. 2km over 17 obstacles well distributed over the large area. 25 riders started the event that finished with the victory of Mario Fioruzzi on Cellamonte del Ferro. Christine Scannavano came second on Frederick while once again Paolo Biasia was third on Morillon.
