Horsetown USA hungry to perserve its way of life
As we know, Norco in California is known as Horsetown USA.Amongst the 25,000 or so population, most of the inhabitants use our equine friends to get around during their daily life.It is certainly a dream location for all horse lovers and those who enjoy a burger and fries. The Drive-thru McDonalds is more used to the clip-clop of hooves than the screeching of tyres as riders fuel up after a day in saddle around the 130 miles of trails that surround the town.Horses rule the roads may rule the road but cars also play an important role so when the economic downturn hit the automobile trade, the dealerships asked for help from the town fathers.Even though the council was facing a major budget deficit, they were more than happy to help out.Mayor Kathy Azevedo explained:“Our auto mall is our economic engine for the city of Norco. It’s what brings in the biggest sales tax base.
“To give them a loan to keep them in business and then their money in turn goes into the general fund, which is what supports fire, police, our horse trails.“With the dealerships able to steady its financial footing, Norco’s focus can go back to preserving its horse-loving way of life which should keep the traffic jams down to a minimum.
