Greg Broderick will represent Ireland at the Olympic Games in Rio should other international riders drop out. As thing stand, Ireland are the first reserve for the individual and team event in Brazil if any of the other qualified riders or nations are unable to take part.
The surprise decision was made by national team coach Robert Splane with many in the field expecting the young and talented but nonetheless experienced and successful Bertram Allen to be named as Ireland’s hope for the Olympic Games. Allen however does feature on the reserve list albeit behind Broderick who shone last week in Switzerland with 4 clears. Should Broderick go to the prestigious games in Brazil he would be competing with the mount MHS Going Global.
Ireland have until July 18 to make a final decision.
