Italy got their 2015 Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup campaign off to a dream start by winning the first European leg in Lummen, Belgium.
The four riders chosen by head coach Hans Horn finished the two rounds with just 6 penalties overall. None of the riders managed to register double clears, but they were consistent and the coach managed his team well discarding both of Luca Maria Moneta’s results. The Italian wasn’t at his best, giving a below par display by his standards with Neptune Brecourt and collected 4 penalties in round 1 and 20 in the second.
The other 3 Italian riders however made up for Moneta’s off-day and were on fine form, with Daniele Augusto da Rios with For Passione and Piergiorgio Bucci with Casallo Z only collecting 1 penalty in round 1 while Lorenzo De Luca with Erco vanT Roosakker was faultless in round 1. A reminder that Italy were competing for qualification points in Belgium which makes their victory even sweeter.
Belgium and Great Britain came joint second after 12 penalties each. For the Italian national team, to finish ahead of Belgium is a revenge of sorts seeing as the Belgians triumphed on Italian soil last year in the Rome leg. 5th Holland / Switzerland – 20 penalties
7th Sweden – 28 penalties
8th Ireland – 33 penalties
