After the beaches of Saint-Tropez, the Longines Global Champions Tour moves to visit the red carpet in Cannes where last year the Spanish rider Sergio Alvarez Moya found glory.
The French Riviera this year doubles as an LGCT stopover with two locations of extraordinary beauty and charm: from nature and the almost tropical beaches of the Pampelonne beach in Ramatouelle (Saint-Tropez) to glamor and the lights of the city on the seafront in Cannes, the move is short one but enough to project participants and spectators into deeply different contexts.
Another podium could further cement the leadership of Edwina Tops-Alexander who has 154 points in total, followed by only 11 points by Ben Maher, already winner twice this year in GP Longines del Tour.
Among the surprises this season, the 5th place for Belgian under-25 Jos Verlooy, the 22-year-old student of Harrie Smolders (a rider who knows about this tournament), comes to the eye, traveling in the wake of the leaders with 98 points.
Other big names are Ludger Beerbaum (GER), Nicola Philippaerts (BEL), Olivier Philippaerts (BEL), Simon Delestre (FRA), Roger-Yves Bost (FRA), Maikel van der Vleuten (NED), Lorenzo de Luca (ITA), Harrie Smolders (NED), Peder Fredricson (SWE), Christian Ahlmann (GER), Pedro Veniss (BRA), John Whitaker (GBR) and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (SWE), all ready for the big parade of stars of the seventh stage at the Hesperides stadium.
