Mayor of Siena hits back at Brambilla

The Mayor of Siena has hit back at the Minister of Tourism, Michela Vittoria Brambilla, following her controversial statement that Iatly should follow in the footsteps of the Catalan region in Spain and ban the Palio because there a form of animal cruelty.Ms Brambilla said that the Palio only served to ruin the image of Italy but her words have infuriated the local authorities of Siena who rely on the famous event to attract large numbers of Tourists to the beautiful Tuscan town.According to the Mayor Maurizio Cenni the Minister for Tourism knows nothing about the Palio and what is represents, not only for the city but also for the country. Now the local authorities are looking into legal proceedings in order to make sure that the Palio of Siena remains a firm fixture in the summer calendar.
