Ocala, FL – An international field of athletes representing eight countries gathered this evening to contest the $75,000 Alltech Grand Prix with a full house of spectators adding to the electric atmosphere under the lights. FEI Level II course designer Colm Quinn (IRL) built the complex tracks that featured three double combinations and a new brick wall fence that caught out several competitors throughout the evening. While fifteen entries advanced to the jump-off and eleven pairs managed double clear rounds, Peter Petschenig (AUT) and Brooke Peterson’s Ennebel Van Het Posthuijs were simply uncatchable.
Petschenig has had a successful season at World Equestrian Center – Ocala, earning a recent grand prix victory aboard his other mount Wannabe CS. Tonight, Petschenig continued his success aboard his new mount Ennebel Van Het Posthuijs (Numero Uno x Annebel).
Petschenig and the 13-year-old KWPN mare went early in the order with the goal of creating a faultless first round, so the pair could try their hand at the jump-off later. Petschenig and Ennebel Van Het Posthuijs produced a seamless first round in 82.071 seconds.
Petschenig and Ennebel Van Het Posthuijs were the sixth to last pair to return for the short-course.
Petschenig and the speedy Ennebel Van Het Posthuijs flew through the timers stopping the at 34.162 seconds, a time that landed them atop the leader board, where they would remain for the rest of the class.
Sharn Wordley (NZL) and his own Casper (Contender x Falubet) landed in the second place spot. Wordley and the spunky Casper navigated a fast and smooth first round in 80.639 seconds, well within the time allowed of 88 seconds. Wordley and the 16-year-old Oldenburg gelding were the seventh to last pair to try their hand at the jump-off, flying from fence one to two to walk down the line in six strides. The pair flew through the remainder of the course to stop the timers at 35.785 seconds.
