The Longines Grand Prix in Basle has been won by Portugal’s Luciana Diniz. The Portuguese horsewoman was riding with her 11 year-old sorrel Fit For Fun and her victory means she takes home a cool 100 thousand Swiss francs in prize money. It’s the second time that Diniz has won the main competition of the Swiss equestrian event in Basle having also won the GP in 2013 with Winningmood.
Sunday’s GP was a close one however with Diniz recording a time that was just 7 tenths of a second quicker than second place Marlon Mòdolo Zanotelli from Brazil with Extra van Essene (Diamant de Semilly). The Longines ranking leader Scott Brash meanwhile took the final podium slot with his mount Hello Sanctos (Quasimodo). The quickest time was recorded by Belgium’s Gregory Wathelet with Conrad de Hus (28.28) but the pair weren’t able to combine speed with precision amassing 4 penalties which meant they had to settle for 4th place.
There was also 2 excellent results for the Italian riders. Piergiorgio Bucci with Casallo Z came in 5th place after 12 penalties during the jump-off. Lorenzo De Luca with his splendid Zoe II came in 9th and their GP came to an end in the second round.
