The Italians continue to put on a great spectacle in the reining at the European Championships in Aachen, and after the sensational victory in the team event following a thrilling neck and neck battle with the hosts Germany, the Azzurri have now made it a double by also claiming gold in the individual event thanks to Giovanni Masi de Vargas and Dance Little Spook.
Giovanni Masi de Vargas was amongst the favourites for the victory and the Italian lived up to the expectations edging out main rival Grisha Ludwig of Germany for the gold. The Tuscan was the last to take to the arena with his 7 year-old horse and collected 222 points, one more than Ludwig in second with Shine My Gun. Germany ensured a double podium finish with Elias Ernst with Uss N Dun It in third on 219 points.
As for the other Italians competing, Pierluigi Fabbri with Broadway Jaba came fifth (217.50 points), Francesco Martinotti finished 7th with Rambo Bo Sun (216 points) and Edoardo Bernardelli with AT Andrewood (211.50) 17th. See here for a full breakdown of the results:
The limelight though belonged to Giovanni Masi de Vargas who marked his international debut at the senior level with the coveted European crown.
