EVENTING – The Italian Eventing team will be able to count on a rider of immense experience at the Rio Olympic games in August. Stefano Brecciaroli will be competing in his fourth Olympics (after Athens, Beijing and London) and will be a true leader for the rest of the team; the two brothers Pietro and Luca Roman. Both will be making their debuts at Olympic level although they have plenty of international experience and both competed at the recent European Championships. They are the sons of Euro Federicoi, gold medal in the Eventing individual and silver in the team at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. They will also be joined by Arianna Schivo, also competing at the games for the first time.
The final selections for the team were made after the Pro elite competition in Haras du Pin at the start of July and then at Barbury Castle on July 16-17 where unfortunately Borough Pennyz (normlly ridden by Vittoria Panizzon) picked up an injury and had to turn down the call-up for the team.
DRESSAGE – One female rider will be representing Italy in Dressage. It will be Valentina Truppa, the star of Italian Dressage, who has been competing at the highest level now for some years. This will be Truppa’s second Olympic Games after London 2012.
Valentina has fully recovered from the terrible accident in June 2015 that left the world of equestrian sports holding their breath and with great determination went on to amass the points needed to make the national team.
SHOW JUMPING – Emanuele Gaudianowill be representing Italy in Show Jumping at the next Games. He has been the number one in the discipline for Italy over recent years and the rider has been looking forward to competing in his first Olympics for quite some time now.
