THE CPEDI*** OF DEAUVILLE IS BACK!

International sport is back! From the 1st to the 3rd of April, the elite of para-equestrian dressage have a rendezvous at the Pôle International du Cheval – Longines of Deauville for 3 days of top level competition.
2022 will also be the occasion for the Normandy event to finally celebrate its 10th edition. Considered as one of the major dates in the para-equestrian calendar, Deauville’s CPEDI*** is regularly synonymous with dress rehearsals for teams. A few months after the Tokyo Paralympic Games and in the run-up to the World Championships in Herning (6th to the 14th of August 2022), the selectors will be lining-up their best horse and rider combinations in front of a panel of judges accustomed to major events. Indeed, four of them, including Anne Prain and Marco Orsini who were among the judges in Japan, will be officiating at the next World Championships.
Austria’s Pepo Puch, Paralympic champion in Rio (2016), London (2012) and vice-champion in Tokyo in Grade II, the bronze medallists in Brazil in 2016, Frank Hosmar (Grade V), Nicole Den Dulk (Grade II) and Rixt van der Horst (Grade III) who all represent the Netherlands, Great Britain’s Sophie Wells (Grade V), double gold medallist at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington in 2010 and Tryon in 2018, as well as one of the most successful athletes of all time, her compatriot Lee Pearson (Grade II) who alone has more than 30 medals at European, World and Paralympic level: All of these names have made an impression and left their mark in the ring at the Pôle International du Cheval. Although the line-up is not yet known, each nation will be looking to win the 10th Deauville CPEDI*** Nations Cup. Teams of three riders will compete in the Team Test on Friday and the Individual Test on Saturday. Winners in Tokyo, and undefeated since 2012 in Normandy, Great Britain will be looking to keep their crown. The Netherlands, second in the competition from 2014 to 2019 will be closely watched.
After showing consistency in 2021, a 6th place at the last Paralympics, horses in the making and on their way up, France will certainly have a card to play. If the Nations Cup is the major objective, the individual placings established at the end of each class are of no less importance. The best pairs following the first two days will qualify to compete in a final class: the Freestyle. This freestyle test to music is always highly popular with the public.
The classes for Grade I to Grade V (going from the highest to the lowest degree of impairment) will take place outdoors in the main arena. As for other activities, conferences, an equestrian display by Elisa Laville and photo exhibitions are already programmed.
A real reference for amateurs and professionals in the equestrian sector, the Pôle International du Cheval – Longines de Deauville has been awarded the Terre de Jeux 2024 label and will be welcoming several teams in their run-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a testament to the quality and reputation of the Normandy site.
The rendezvous is confirmed, the 10th edition of the CPEDI*** in Deauville will be in full swing from April 1st to 3rd.
