WEG 2014: record entry list for Normandy event

72 nations will be taking part at the next World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Normandy, which is a record for the event. Teams had until the 31st of March to inform organisers of the discipline in which they wished to participate. The discipline which has registered the most interest is show-jumping which will have 57 representatives, while the Endurance discipline is also very popular with 50 registered nations.
Australia, Austria, France, Great Britain, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Sweden and the United States will have teams or individuals registered in every one of the disciplines. As for the rest of the teams, there will be 12 nations making their debut at this event. They are as follows: Hong Kong, the Virgin Islands, Kazakhstan, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Morocco, Mauritius, Peru, Palestine, Romania, Thailand and Tunisia. The FEI secretary general, Ingmar de Vos, was said to be excited about the many new entries which is another sign of the increasing popularity of the equestrian sector. This is how the disciplines are split up:
Show-jumping: 57 Federations (41 countries with teams, 16 countries for individual)
Endurance: 50 Federations (40 countries with teams, 10 countries for individual)
Dressage: 39 Federations (28, 11)
Para – Dressage: 34 Federations (24, 10)
Eventing: 29 Federations (23, 6)
Vaulting: (20 teams, 14 pas – de – deux , individual: 23 female vaulters, 15 male vaulters)
Reining: 25 Federations (19, 6)
Driving : 19 Federations (15, 4)
