The Spanish rider finished the day in third place with Caliga Blue PS

Vejer, 13th March 2024 – It was a great start to the week for Spanish rider Manuel Fernández Saro and two of his superb eight-year-old horses. Riding the Sandro Boy x Con Air 7 mare, Isandra SC, he won the 1.40m two-stage special for eight-year-olds at Hickstead Arena in a time of 28.62 seconds and was also third with another mare, Caliga Blue PS (Caligula x Chacco-Blue) in 29.11 seconds.

In second place was another Spanish rider, Fernando de Los Santos Garcia, with the mare Geisha Batilly, out of Qlassic Bois Margot x Numero Uno, who stopped the clock in 29.05 seconds. Fourth place went to the Brazilian rider Felipe Amaral with Gesse de Baerenrain and fifth to the Austrian rider Alessandra Reich with Galadermie PP Z.

The competition for 7-year-olds was also held on the grass and the first category was won by the stallion Dadi-Cellis, out of Diamant de Plaisir, ridden by the Polish rider, Marek Lewicki. The podium was completed by Flo Jo 4, ridden by Leonie Böckmann from Germany, and Comme Ci Comme Ca, ridden by Micky Morssinkhof from the Netherlands. BWE Vain Hero, ridden by the Irish Shane O’Reilly, and Machiavelli B, ridden by the Spaniard Ángel Cerdido Calderón, completed the top five.

In the second race for 7-year-olds, the winner was the Italian gelding Tiberio della Caccia (Otangelo x Cannavaros), ridden by the Irishman Sean Monaghan; second was Nairobi, ridden by the Portuguese Goncalo Esteves; third was Aliki Z, ridden by the American Molly Hay. Goncalo was also fourth with Maradette S and fifth was Carrera Crystal, ridden by the Belgian Laurens Houben.

The top three finishers in the first 6-year-old race were all British. First was Diagolda PS (Diaron x Kannan), ridden by Nicole Lockhead Anderson, followed by Sing Z and Tabitha Kyle in second and Bozooka with Emma Stoker in third. Two German horses completed the top five, Full of Fire with Leonie Böckmann and Oki Doki 15 with Enno Klaphake.

In the second category, the winner was Ici Dumontdordeblonde (by Bentley VD Heffinck x Kanshebber) ridden by the Spaniard Joel Valles Rossell. Second place went to Witchella HF with the British rider, Emily Ward, and third to Casallier, ridden by Enno Klaphake. Fourth and fifth place went to MHB Magnum Splendor, ridden by Jonathan Smyth from Ireland, and Napoleon, ridden by Arianna Kuligowski from the UK.

In the 5-year-old category, 48 pairs scored net points in the two categories to qualify for the Sunshine Tour Series – Young Horse Finals.
