Sunshine Tour: Ruben Gomez Crespo wins the 8yr old class with ‘Emeraude de Zabala’

Swapping yesterday’s top two, Marie Demonte takes second place, this time with ‘Glasgow de Riverland’ and third is Anthony Condon with ‘SfS Houdini’.

Vejer, 7th March, 2024.  Yesterday, on the second day of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour week 5, there was a swap in the top two places in the eight-year-old class, from Spanish, Ruben Gomez Crespo and French rider, Marie Demonte.  Ruben was riding the same mare as yesterday, ‘Emeraude de Zabala’, by ‘Emerald van’t Ruytershof’ x ‘Caprice de Waver Z’ and he stopped the clock in this 1.40 (FT) class, in just 63.61s.

This time Marie was riding ‘Glasgow de Riverland’ a gelding by, ‘L’Arc de Triomphe’ dam sire ‘Diamant de Semilly’ who finished in 65.40s.

And so these two riders continue their success here at the 30th Andalucía Sunshine Tour: an event sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of Andalucía, through Tourism and Sports of Andalucía. 

In third was Ireland’s Anthony Condon with the stallion, ’SFS Houdini’ by ‘SFS Aristio’ x ‘Magic Darco’.  Fourth and fifth were two Brazilian riders, Yuri Mansur with ‘Cerafina’ and Felip Guinato with ‘Gandalf Mouche’.  There were 25 clears in this class of 52 horses.

There were two, seven-year-old classes; the first was won by Dutch, Micky Morssinkhof with ‘Come Ci Come Ca’ moving up from their second place yesterday.  Second was British, William Fletcher with ‘Secret Sunset’; third, Swiss, Sasha Barthe with ‘Dofina Z’; fourth, German, Leonie Böckmann with ‘California 151’ and fifth was Dutch, Amke Bekhuis with ‘Kathleen-KL’.

In the second class, the top three were Irish riders;  this time Sean Monaghan, with ‘Tiberio Della Caccia’ took the top of the podium, one place up from yesterday.  Second was Emily Turkington with ‘ Carrickview Cheap Thrills’ and in third was Rhys Williams with ‘BP Rocket Man’.  Fourth was Brazilian, João Victor Castro with ‘Heroes Kervec’ and in fifth was French rider, Louis Wood with ‘Corset Z’.

The first six-year-old class was won by Swiss, Peter Burri with ‘Sienna de Brandegem’ moving up from their third place yesterday.  Second and third were British riders, Emily Ward with ‘Witchella HF’;  Emma Stoker with ‘Bozooka, both keeping on the podium again today.  In equal fourth were Danish rider, Sophia Studd with ‘Twiggy Hop G’ and Yuri Mansur with ‘Gitano VD Dassenheide Z’. 

In the second class, the winner was British, Jude Burgess with ‘Starcent’ and Jude also took fourth place with ‘Leestone Nicolas’.  In second was American, was Molly Hay with ‘Tangilo Wi Ro Z’;  third was Spanish rider, Alvaro Gonzalez de Zarate with ‘Image de Vigo’  and in fifth was Swiss, Yannick Jorand with ‘ Major du Rouet’.

The five-year-olds had 1.10, a 2Ph Sp today.  The winner of the first class was from Belgium, Cassandra Malherbe with ‘Lou van het Eikenhof Z’.  Second and third places went to British riders,  recently arrived, Simon Crippen with ‘Z7 Queen B’ and Jude Burgess with ‘Ophelia’.  Fourth was Spanish, Adrian Lucas Millan with ‘Canamon’ and fifth was Finnish rider, Sonia Leena Hungerbühler with ‘Chacoon’s Date’. 

In the second class, Cassandra took the top spot with ‘Like a G6 MKM Z’.  Second was a young British rider, Maisy Williams with ‘Tuinman van de Lentamel’.  Third was Spanish, Rocio Lazaro Alonso with ‘Esmeralda Z’; fourth was Irish, Charles O’Reilly Hyland with ‘Penelope 31’ and in fifth was Swedish, Ebba Danielsson with ‘Cookie Dough’. 

Tomorrow the CSI4* starts up with 5 classes running alongside the last day of this week’s jumping for the Young Horses; who are building up their sum of clear rounds towards the Finals in the seventh week.
